I had the good fortune tonight to try one of my recurring favorites; the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. It's a Double IPA (aka Imperial IPA) that in my opinion blends some of the best attributes of its younger and older brothers.
Although my pour had little to no head, the overall look of the beer was a wonderful dark, dark amber - more like a dark gem than colored glass.
The aroma is hoppy, but very CO2-y; perhaps a consequence of a decapitated pour. Underneath the carbonation is a strong aura of malt and hops; an invitation to taste the beer beneath.
The mouthfeel, however, is superb. A lot of velvety creaminess, especially smooth in the roof of my mouth. It envelops everything that it needs to without being cloying.
The subtle taste is of burnt, smoky chocolate, but overall the impression that lingers is of a deliciously malty hopped-up beer.
Overall one of my most reliably favorite beers on tap - the fact that I can find it at many bars here definitely endears it to me.
Thanks, Milton, Delaware!
